Jon Pearce was my junior choir director at First Congregational church. I adored him! He really brought out the best in us and I loved singing every Sunday. He had a great wit and would silence us with the "look".

Jonathan Pearce

Feb. 14, 1929 to Sept. 26, 2011

A fifth-generation Californian born in San Jose, Jonathan Pearce earned degrees from the University of the Pacific. In his youth, Jonathan Pearce was a concert tenor. He served as a counterintelligence investigator in the Korean War.

For many years he was employed by Lincoln Unified School District as a teacher and administrator. In 1993 he joined the part-time faculty of California State University as a lecturer in education.

Jonathan Pearce was a publisher of BalonaBooks and author of many works of fiction under his own name and several pen names. He composed opera libretti and poetry, earned advanced ranks in several Asian martial arts. He was a cellist, linguist, world traveler, and member of a variety of professional organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Miya C. Pearce; his daughter Marika Lee of San Jose; his son Marius "Maki" of Stockton, and by grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and by a sister Derith Foreman of Nipomo.

Arrangements were made by the Nautilus Society of Northern California. There were no services at the request of the deceased.

The family respectfully requests no flowers and no visitors.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice of San Joaquin; Friends of the Library; Stockton Symphony Association; The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Northern California.
